Coming into the three-game series against the Rams, Browns and Lions, I said that the team would stumble once and emerge at 6-2. If they can pull that off by beating the winless Lions, this team will be well-positioned in the NFC East.

But first let’s rewind to a couple things from yesterday’s game while we await coach Jim Zorn’s 12:25 p.m. press conference, which we’ll have for you here.

—Santana Moss is back in the offensive rhythm. He’s going to be hit or miss the way defenders key on him, but Jason Campbell really needs to make an effort to try to get the ball to him even in that coverage, as he did yesterday. When Moss is a threat, everybody benefits. Also worth noting: he now has 6,015 career receiving yards.

—Rock Cartwright came in to relieve Clinton Portis on plays, while Shaun Alexander did the relief for entire drives. Neither were overwhelmingly great but Cartwright was definitely the better of the two, which bodes well for his future touches.

—New punter Ryan Plackemeier certainly did fine in his first appearance with the team, and almost came away with an inside-the-five result on his first punt, but the Redskins were unable to corral the ball as it bounced their way. The only special teams snafu was on a field goal that would have given the team a 3-0 lead in the second quarter, which appeared to be a high snap.

—Today’s game story revolves around Carlos Rogers, who is quietly putting together a Pro Bowl year at the position. He draws the best assignments and then shuts those receivers down, as he did to Braylon Edwards yesterday.

Jason Campbell felt some tightness in his groin before the game, but played through it. That was the only major injury, and I’m sure we’ll get an update on it when Zorn takes the podium at 12:25.

Esteemed columnist Paul Woody will have your in-game updates today, so check those out on the front of inrich.com. I’ll hand the internet cord back to him and let him take you the rest of the way here.

A couple quick notes first - the ‘Skins are without Shawn Springs today, we’ll keep an eye on the team’s secondary, it could be a vulnerable area.

We interrupt your weekend to bring you this….

Rams offensive lineman Richie Incognito, who was seen arguing with officials throughout last Sunday’s game, has been fined $35,000 for his actions, according to ESPN. Incognito almost cost his team the game with a 15-yard personal foul penalty in the game’s final seconds.

Also, fans in DC are, to put it charitably, angry at the NFL for telling CBS channel 9 in Washington that it must show the Ravens game to completion (or a blowout) before switching to the Redskins game. Usually the networks are allowed to show the ‘Skins in their entirety.

Richmond viewers will not be affected as they are not in the Baltimore Ravens viewing area. You will see Pittsburgh vs. Cincinnati at 1 p.m. before the Redskins.

Redskins-Browns kicks off Sunday at 4:15 p.m. The first 25,000 fans at FedEx Field get a “Redskins Ticket” button touting the team’s Pro Bowl candidates. Here’s what to watch for:

—Clinton Portis was back on the practice field Friday getting some reps (hip flexor), and we’ll see him in the starting lineup.

—Shaun Alexander isn’t known as a blocking back, which is something Portis does exceptionally well and Ladell Betts has also done well. We’ll see if Alexander can throw the blocks that Jason Campbell needs to execute this offense.

—Speaking of scary situations, new punter Ryan Plackemeier will be the team’s holder (unlike some teams, which use the backup QB, the Redskins have the punter hold on field goals and extra points). Plackemeier is a professional, and I’m sure with a week of practice he’ll learn just what Shaun Suisham is looking for.

—The secondary was back in practice, including Carlos Rogers and Fred Smoot. Especially if Browns TE Kellen Winslow is ready to go (he’s probable), a good secondary will be key to shut down big plays.

—Zorn was visibly agitated that the offense had four false start calls last week. The Browns had timing problems of their own Monday night, and it’s something both teams will look to cut down on.

Enjoy your weekend, we’ll fire up the blog Sunday afternoon in Landover. See you then.
