A restart on lap 78 puts some almost lapped cars and not-so-fast cars at the front—the result of pit strategies playing out during the 4th caution. So we immediately had our 5th caution as cars jammed up behind the front pack. A shoddy restart, to say the least.
Things only got worse. the next restart had cars picking up speed, slowing, picking up speed again.
We had an impressive racing moment with Tony Kanaan, Danica Patrick and Helio Castroneves navigating the first and second turns three abreast. An instant later we chalked up the sixth caution with a collision and spin back in the pack.
During this caution, Patrick pits. She’s trying to get her car adjusted to handle better. She’s out of sequence with the leaders, and pit strategy could determine where Patrick and several others finish.
The good news: no serious injuries.
We’re back under green. Marco Andretti, who was involved in the last spin but managed to avoid damage to his car, has gone to the front with a couple of impressive passes. We’re 115 laps in. Maybe we can have a stretch of green-flag racing now.
