Getting the most out of your taxes

One of the most interesting facts that didn’t make it in the article involves the standard deduction. Nearly two-thirds of all federal income-tax returns take the standard deduction, instead of itemizing deductions such as charitable donations. For 2008, taxpayers can for the first time claim up to $500 or $1,000 for married couples filing jointly in real estate taxes paid.

I inherited a house from my parents and sold it. I realize that since I sold it within a few months there will be no tax. However, do I have to report the sale in any way on my tax returns?
