Many shots heard in South Side homicide / Police ask for help in solving death of Chesterfield man Numerous shots were heard in the Hillside Court public housing complex in South Richmond yesterday morning before police found the body of a Chesterfield County father of five. A resident arriving home called police about 6:10 a.m. to say there was a man on the ground in the 1800 block of Southlawn Avenue. Percy L. “Tee” Robinson Jr., 54, had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The first officers to arrive said he appeared to have been shot in the head and was not breathing. Police quickly sealed off the block, called in violent-crimes detectives and began interviewing nearby residents. Robinson’s body was in the street, next to the curb and several trash cans. Police reported receiving two calls for multiple gunshots in the area before the body was found. One caller, from just northwest of where the body was found, reported hearing 11 or 12 gunshots. Another caller, from just northeast of where the body was discovered, reported hearing eight shots. Alicia Rasin, victims’ advocate and founder of Citizens Against Crime, said Robinson leaves a wife, Marie, two daughters and three sons. Rasin said that as he did almost daily, Robinson had driven from his home in Chesterfield and dropped his wife off at the home of his 87-year-old mother on East 31st Street. Rasin said he was on his way to work as a fuel-truck driver for Green Motor Lines on Commerce Road. Marie Robinson said police told her that they found her husband’s pickup truck in Hillside Court. Rasin said Robinson’s wife described him as a homebody. “He wasn’t one to go out at all. His wife and family don’t have a clue why somebody would have shot him,” Rasin said. “He was just a wonderful, hard-working man. The family is distraught.” Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000 or the Richmond police tip line at (804) 514-TIPS (8477). |
