The body of a man pulled from the James River on Tuesday after he jumped from the Pocahontas Parkway bridge has been positively identified as that of Walter Eugene Moorman, 41, the suspect in his wife’s death.

Chesterfield County police continue to investigate the circumstances of Tuesday’s apparent murder-suicide, which began when Lonna R. Gregory- Moorman, 37, was found slain in a bedroom of the couple’s home in the 3500 block of Oregon Oak Drive.

Investigators believe Moorman fatally stabbed his wife and then committed suicide by jumping off the bridge later Tuesday morning. His blood-stained pickup truck was found parked at the top of the Pocahontas Parkway bridge, just east of Interstate 95.

Bloodstains also were found on a concrete barrier near where police believe Moorman jumped. After his body was recovered, investigators found that Moorman had deeply cut both of his wrists, said Chesterfield police Capt. Paige Foster.

Causes of death are still pending for Moorman and his wife. The couple had two young children.
