Two Chesterfield County men were charged yesterday with capital murder and robbery in last week’s drug-related slaying of an Ettrick man.
Scott D. Tyler and William E. Rives Jr., both 26 and of the 2700 block of Martingale Road, were arrested yesterday afternoon without incident, county police said.

They each were charged with capital murder, robbery, use of a firearm in a felony, conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of cocaine and conspiracy to distribute cocaine, according to police. Tyler also was charged with possessing a firearm after being convicted of a felony.

Both men are accused of fatally shooting Larry D. Darden, 29, who was found slain Oct. 15 inside his home in the 21300 block of Chesterfield Avenue. He died of a gunshot wound to the back of the head, according to a search warrant affidavit filed in Chesterfield Circuit Court.

During a search of Darden’s home, investigators seized a baggie with green seeds and some drug paraphernalia, including a digital scale. Police also recovered a laptop computer, a safe, a cartridge casing, a wireless card and a camera card, according to an inventory of items seized.

Darden’s mother discovered her son’s body shortly before 9 p.m. after stopping by to check on his welfare. He had lived in the house he leased with his brother since July 1.

Tyler and Rives are being held in the Chesterfield jail pending hearings next week in Chesterfield General District Court.

Darden’s death is Chesterfield’s 12th homicide of the year.
