2nd teen charged in Petersburg slaying

A second teen has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in last month’s shooting death of another teen in Petersburg that police described as accidental.
Preston L. McCray, 18, of Petersburg, was charged in the Jan. 28 death of 19-year-old Kendrick J. Lee, who was found dead in a car parked at a public housing complex in southeastern Petersburg. Lee, known as KJ, lived in the 1700 block of Stuart Avenue.

On Jan. 29, police arrested Lakel A. “Bear” Green, 18, in Lee’s death. He also was charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Police had received a 911 call from a relative of Lee, but they could not immediately determine where to find the shooting victim. His body was found in a car on Redwood Court at Pin Oaks Estates.

Police spokeswoman Esther Hyatt has described Lee’s death as accidental but declined to elaborate. Police officials refused to say what relationship, if any, Green and McCray had to Lee, or explain how Lee accidentally was shot.
