Police probe slaying in Richmond, deaths of two in Chesterfield

Police are investigating a fatal shooting in Richmond and the deaths of two people in Chesterfield County this weekend.

Chesterfield police are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death of a man and woman found dead in an apartment Saturday. Authorities declined to identify the man and woman yesterday or to provide any additional information about them or the case.

Richmond police were investigating the death of Kemal Dickerson, who was shot early yesterday in a parking lot outside an antiques store in South Richmond.

Officers received a call at 1:43 a.m. about the shooting and arrived within one minute at a parking lot in the 5000 block of Forest Hill Avenue just west of Westover Hills Boulevard near Westover Hills Elementary School.

Police found Dickerson, 33, of the 5900 block of Glenway Court in Richmond, suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene. He was taken to VCU Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The shooting happened outside the Vintage Antique and Art Co., owner Michael J. Sperberg said. A bullet hole was visible yesterday in the glass on the front of the building, along with what looked like blood on the pavement.

The general manager of the nearby Forest Restaurant said someone ran into the restaurant after the shooting and alerted people inside. A patron called 911.

Police released no additional information about the killing. They asked that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.

In the Chesterfield case, a friend discovered the bodies about 2:30 p.m. in an apartment in the 7700 block of Bannockbarn Drive in the Chesterfield Village Apartments north of Midlothian Turnpike and west of Chippenham Parkway.

Kristy Brogan, a resident of the apartments, said she heard two gunshots Saturday morning. Neighbors said they saw police and ambulances converge on the scene that day.

One woman said she saw workers removing from the apartment what looked like a body wrapped in white sheets. She also saw people crying outside the apartment building and one woman nearly pass out.

Another resident, Shirley Cooper, said she recently moved to the apartment complex.

“That’s pretty disturbing,” Cooper said. “I’ve been here not even a month. This is not good.”
