Man fatally shot in Petersburg

Two men were shot, one fatally, after a disagreement during a birthday party early yesterday in Petersburg, police said.
Police received a call shortly before 1 a.m. reporting that someone had been shot at the Veterans of Foreign Wars building on Johnson Road. Police said Donnaven L. Brannock, 20, of Petersburg had been shot to death.

Kelvin Goode, 26, was shot more than once but did not suffer life-threatening injuries, police said.

The gunfire was prompted by a disagreement during a private birthday party at the VFW building, police said. They declined to release additional information, including whether the men were shot inside or outside the building.

Authorities said they have interviewed several witnesses, and they are asking anyone with information to call Petersburg/Dinwiddie Crime Solvers at (804) 861-1212.
