Arrest made in Henrico slaying / Man killed in shooting Wednesday; suspect charged with murder
Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting death at a western Henrico County apartment complex Wednesday. Brian Campbell, 20, was shot at the Nottingham Green apartments about 7:15 p.m., on Wednesday and taken to VCU Medical Center, where he died, police said. His brother, Jamal A. Campbell, 25, was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. Henrico police said they responded to a call about a fight among several individuals at the complex, located off Quioccasin Road near Regency Square Mall and Pemberton Road. The apartments are home to many immigrant families from African, Latin American and European countries. Yesterday, a crinkled strip of police tape was the only visible sign of what had taken place behind three colonial-style buildings. The grassy yard was dotted with satellite dishes and children’s toys. About an hour before the shooting, Brian Campbell had finished his shift at the Food Lion in the Quioccasin Station Shopping Center, less than half a mile from the complex. Store manager Wes Williams said Campbell worked as a cashier for nearly a year and was training for a higher-paying position in the meat department. Williams said Campbell worked a second job at an auto parts store. “He got a lot of compliments from customers. He was a really good kid. He’d stay late and help out. He was very polite,“ Williams said. “He definitely had a bright future.“ |
