I suspect there is significant new pollution. However I’ll also bet most of us would rather have the refinery than abate the pollution, particularly since most Americans drive cars but very few actually live near to a refinery.
Since the Oil Cos. have stated the “margins are low” (no profits) on refineries, they can afford to sit back on their heels and dig in for a long hard trench warfare. After all, it isn’t the oil cos. themselves who need this new refinery, it’s we the people.
They can enlist us to fight their battles against the dread greenie enviros. The EPA has already joined their side. Of course, that’s the Bush EPA we are talking about, not just any EPA.
This is a battle that is primed to make everyone a loser, no one the winner. “I want my oil and I want it now.“

These are the same class of morons who have filed suit against Dominion Energy’s new plant in Wise county. As we watch our gasoline, electricity, and gas prices go through the roof, one has to wonder what goes through the minds of these people. If we were all starving and we had fish in a stream that contained the last surviving colony of darter snails to feed ourselves, I am guessing we would all be dead before we got the okay to produce food for ourselves. Energy is no less importany to modern survival. This is why no one should graduate from college without having taken economics. Allocation of scare resources, an important topic for the ages that escapes the greenies.

Nothing new here. Same old, same old screwing of the American public. But then we are a “do nothing nation”. Instead we are a “nation of whinners”, accurately stated by Phil Graham.
