Home furnishings store Ruth & Ollie has begun a new e-commerce Web site to reach a larger customer base.
Co-owner Mike Liebschwager said he sees customers from across the country in the Carytown store. Many ask if they can buy merchandise online.
Until the new shopruthandollie.com site went live in late August, the store’s first Web site, ruthandollie.com, offered only information and displayed some products. It wasn’t equipped to handle sales transactions.
The new site can handle transactions, which means the store can reach more customers, Liebschwager said.
About 75 percent of the store’s merchandise is available on the site.
Ruth & Ollie will maintain its first Web site for the time being, but has links set up to the new site.
“Our intent was to make the appearance/integration of the two sites seamless but there will likely be some tweaking between the two sites in the future,” Liebschwager said.
To promote the new site, Ruth & Ollie is including links on its Facebook page and including it in its advertising. Liebschwager said they also will look at home décor and decorating blogs as possible avenues to market the site.
Ruth & Ollie moved to its Carytown location last year from a spot on Grove Avenue near Libbie Avenue.
