The FBI released its annual crime report for the nation in September. In 2009, violent crime declined a third consecutive year, and an estimated 5.3 percent from 2008. Property crime fell for the seventh year in a row as well, and an estimated 4.6 percent from 2008. For Virginia cities, the statistics come from the Virginia State Police. In Richmond, violent crime was up 2.7 percent from 2008 to 2009.
